1799  10th OCT BRITISH INVASION OF HOLLAND - Large-part entire addressed to LEVEN showing a very fine CIRCULAR-FRAMED /ARMY-BAG.  The contents include a partial account of a Cavalry Battle, probably the Battle of Castricum, which took place on 6th Oct 1799 - "...I immediately... 


 ...wheeled around to the right and attacked that column.  The Hussars put about and then the poor devils were unmercifully "jaberd".  I followed them nearly to Egmont op Zee and until I was afraid of being taken in flank by their infantry which was posted in the sandhills...The extreme stupidity of the Russians!  They are the greatest devils I ever met with...".  Written by J Erskine, apparently a Field Commander of some standing.
