1838  Cover from Croydon apparently intended to be sent by Steamer "Duke of Wellington" to Aberdeen.  The Ship Letter Rate for this was 8d.  At the time of posting, the Inland Rate of 1/3½d was charged and paid for by the sender.  At the London Ship Letter Office, it was... 


...observed that the London Inland Rate had been paid so the letter was transferred to the General Post - GP/PAID - cancelling the Ship Letter handstamp and transmitted by Mail Coach to Aberdeen.  Ex Alan Robertson.  VERY UNUSUAL.
